Restarts
4 situations. Each one is drawn on the pitch in the app; the call and the rule behind it are below.
Play is restarting and a goal has just been scored. How?
A throw-in on the centre line. Ends change and play restarts with a throw-in on the centre line.
Play is restarting and a Penalty 1 has been awarded. How?
A Penalty 5b. After a Penalty 1 the restart is a Penalty 5b, ends having been changed.
Play is restarting and a team has wasted time restarting after a goal. How?
A Penalty 5b. Unnecessary delay costs a Penalty 5b.
Play is restarting and the interval between chukkas has ended and no ends were changed. How?
In the same manner and position as it would have been. Play resumes exactly as it would have done without the interval.
Make the call yourself
Every one of these is drawn on the pitch in the app, and you make the call before you see the answer.
Every rule here is stated in our own words, with short quoted extracts from the HPA Blue Book 2026 and Green Book 2025 and a link to the book itself. Polo Rules Test is an independent study aid and is not affiliated with the Hurlingham Polo Association. In any dispute the published rulebook governs.
