Arena Rule 7. Scoring Goals and Winning

Green Book 2025, Rule 7 · Arena
In plain English
A goal is one point. From outside the 25, it is two.
- A goal is one point, and goals from handicap or penalty count the same. Most goals wins.
- To score, the ball has to hit the back-board inside the goal area. The arena goal is capped in height, where an outdoor goal goes up forever.
- A goal counts two points if a field goal is scored from outside the defenders' 25 yard line, directly or by a deflection; if a Penalty 5 or 6 is scored the same way; if a defender's foul stopped such a ball going in; or if the ball goes in off the post. Deflected inside the 25, it is worth one. The mounted umpire signals two by making a T with arm and stick.
- That doubling is the rule arena tactics turn on - a side behind late starts shooting from range on purpose.
- Where a foul denied a two-pointer, play resumes with a 25 yard hit out, ball central to the goal, defenders 10 yards off, and play is continuous as soon as it is hit or hit at.
- After a goal the defending team has the next play, with the attackers 10 yards off until they hit or hit at it. Fail to play within five seconds and the umpire throws the ball in on the 25 yard line.
- Whistle and goal together: the goal is disallowed only if a foul against the attacking side is confirmed. A foul against the defence, or one that is overruled, leaves the goal standing, and a goal scored as a time out is called counts.
The clause that governs
A goal shall count as two points if:... A field goal is scored either directly or by a deflection from outside the defender's 25 yard line.
